Ibogaine is an isolated alkaloid from the root bark of the central West African shrub known as Iboga. Ibogaine has been used for thousands of years for spiritual development and as a rite of passage into adulthood. Ibogaine is a very potent hallucinogenic drug that’s effects can last up to 12 hours. Ibogaine’s effects are intense auditory and visual hallucinations and intense euphoria. Ibogaine’s properties as a detox method for heroin addiction were unknown until the late 1960’s. Since then, studies have been done and have shown that ibogaine is an effective addiction interrupter for most substance including heroin, methadone, methamphetamine, cocaine, alcohol and nicotine.
